How do I Choose a Home Inspector?

When you are selecting a home inspector it is important to carefully screen several inspectors before you hire one.

Keep in mind that there are currently no provincial or federal licensing requirements for home inspectors. For that reason, you should choose someone who belongs to a recognized home inspector association.

Associations such as the The Canadian Association of Home and Property Inspectors (CAHPI) or the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI), provide standards for the profession by requiring members to pass examinations, to participate in continuing education programs and to obtain errors and omissions insurance. Inspectors who fully complete the criteria set out by CAHPI (BC) are awarded the Occupational Title "Registered Home Inspector (RHI)".
